Special Assessment Refund
In 2026, Eaton County received a $2,500,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy through the efforts of State Representative Angela Witwer and the Eaton County Controller’s Office. These grant funds were used directly towards the project’s construction expenses. For properties within the Bank Intercounty Drain Drainage District in both Eaton and Ingham Counties, this will ultimately result in a one-time reduction to the 2026 assessment to be included in your Winter Tax Bill. For properties where their special assessments for the Bank Intercounty Drain Project have already been paid in full, the landowner who paid off the special assessment will receive a partial refund. Read the initial announcement here. The Drainage District is in the process of coordinating notice to all the landowners impacted.
Leaf Pick-Up and Construction
To keep storm sewer drains operating as effectively as possible, keep them clear of leaves and debris. This will prevent rainwater from backing up in the street.
Stormwater Detention Ponds
Constructing three stormwater detention ponds requires removing a lot of dirt. Excavation and hauling of dirt is ongoing. Work on this portion of the project began in June 2025 and will likely continue until June 2028.
Outlet Storm Sewer Replacement
The outlet storm sewer replacement work is substantially complete. Substantial completion means the project is sufficiently finished for its intended purpose, but a few minor tasks remain. Final site restoration is underway.
Saginaw Highway Box Sewer
All lanes on Saginaw Highway are open! This past spring, crews began placing a box sewer under Saginaw Highway to increase capacity of the Bank Intercounty Drain system. Now that paving work has concluded and Saginaw Highway is open, crews will move to Dibble Ave to continue placing box sewer to the south.
Neighborhood Storm Sewer Pipe Replacement
As the installation of smaller-diameter storm sewer drains wraps up, milling and paving of the road takes place. Milling is the removal of existing asphalt pavement using a large machine with a rotating drum and carbide-tipped cutting teeth. Otis and Harvest are finished with top course paving. Hume, Blanche, Meadowview and Michelle Circle should receive top course within the week.
Traffic Alert
TRAFFIC ALERT
Dibble Ave. Closed To Thru Traffic
Saginaw Highway is now open! Dibble Ave will be closed from Saginaw Hwy south to Michigan Ave for thru traffic. This means vehicles that need to access a destination on that specific road are permitted to enter (i.e., residents who live there or visitors to a property or business).
Safety First: Drive Slow in Construction Zones
Driving slow in a construction zone is critical to protect workers and yourself, prevent crashes, and navigate changing road conditions. Please watch out for workers and slow down in construction areas.
